Why is your organization called Santa's Pantry if you're open all year and you're not a pantry?
We get asked this alot and with good reason. After having to turn a gentlman away for help with food for his children at a local food pantry, the Micolas realized that the "gift" they were given of playing Santa and Mrs. Claus for over 12 years, was something they could use to help others. Thus came the name "Santa's". We do not help individuals, we help other 501(c)(3) organizations including pantries and schools. Thus came the "Pantry" part of our name.
How do you determine who gets the donations that you receive?
Even though we would love to help every wothwhile organization, we can not. We try very hard to stay in contact with organizations so we know where each is setting with supplies. If one is stocked but the other is low on supplies, we give to the one that is low. We also only give to organizations that will help anyone that comes in their doors.(at least initially) and are a 501C(3) organization or public school
Are you a religious based organization?
No we are not. However, our board members come from many denominations, have very strong faiths and are christians. We recognize that this is our calling and the president of Santa's Pantry will be the first to tell you that she beleives Santa's pantry is a "God thing"
Are you trying to take Christ out of Christmas?
Absolutely not! Although the organization is not a religious one, the founders deep religious beleifs guide their efforts. Commercializing Christmas by using "Santa" is not the goal of Santa's Pantry. The founders support the"concept" of Santa, and this concept supports showing love to others and encouraging others to show love the same.
Are Santa and Mrs. Claus for hire?
No. We do this for Santa's Pantry and a few other nonprofits. We do it to see the joy in the children's eyes, not for payment.
How do you use the money that people donate directly to Santa's Pantry?
Even though most of our events are on the smaller scale, it still takes supplies to make them happen. Such as paper and ink for printing fliers, advertising, supplies for our gardens, promotional materials for presentations, etc. We use a small percent of donations to cover these costs, the rest is passed on to other nonprofits that are struggling.
Are you a legal entity?
Yes. We are a 501C(3) Nonprofit organization recognized by the IRS
What are your goals with Santa's Pantry?
To join others globally in the Pay it Forward Movement by encouraging people in the Michiana area to join us for activities, events and projects. In turn, making "a difference one favor at a time"
