Teams and Competitions
Elkhart Pay It Forward Day is held each year in hopes of helping local nonprofit organizations like yours. Times are tough, the economy is slow and all of us are seeing a increase in the need for help in our community. We are all in this together and we at Santa's Pantry beleive that if we all stick together and "Pay It Forward" by helping each other however we can, that we will all get through this and maybe even come out better for it.
It is not mandatory that you form a team in order to set up a booth for free. However, we do encourage it. This is why:
Often times people cannot make a large donation to help a nonprofit. But they can give a few dollars. Those few dollars along with someone elses few dollars adds up as we all know. That is the idea behind the teams and competitions.
Teams DO NOT need to be your employees. We understand that many of you have limited help. Teams can consist of friends, family, neighbors, church members, Aunt Sallys best friend Betsy, ANYONE that is willing to compete to win money for your organization.
We have tried to keep registration fees down so almost anyone can participate. Most fees are around $5 each or $25 per team.
The way it works is a team registers and pays the registration fee. At the time they register, they designate what charity they are competing for. So say for instance, a team registers for the bed races and pays $5 for each of the five team members for a total of $25. They designate charity XYZ. Then 9 more teams sign up, paying their $25 registration fee and designating their favorite charity. Now we have a total of $250 in the "pot". Everyone competes and the team competing for XYZ charity wins. They just won half of all the registration fees for their charity, $125 and only invested $25!! (we have to keep out 50% of fees to help cover costs of festival)
The "catch" to this is to get a bunch of teams! More teams, the higher the "pot" and more money you could potentially win. And if you don't win, you "Paid It Forward" and your team helped another nonprofit. After all, isn't that what it's all about?
So start recruiting a team, or 10 teams, there's no limit on how many teams you can have! Ask the kids in your youth groups, or your teenage childrens friends. Ask everyone that you know and get a team entered today!
